Triptych, August 1974, 1974

Oil on canvas, in three parts

198 × 147.5 cm (78 × 58.1 in)

CR 74-01

The only triptych Vance completed. Three separate canvases in three separate frames, never intended to be hung as a continuous field — she specified a gap of no less than forty centimetres between them, and the estate has honoured it in every installation since. The centre panel is the one she reworked; the outer two were painted in a single week in August 1974 and left.
